Sun burn tops the list of beach perils; it is painful and dangerous. Be careful to stay on the beach path when you are making the trail to your favorite spot on the beach to keeping from harming the natural sea oats and other vegetation that help stabilizing the dunes which in turn protect the community from storms.

Eating remains a passion on the Gulf Coast: Northwest Florida is home to many culinary awarded restaurants that serve fine cuisine. Celebrating the ocean’s bounty is as much a part of living on the coast as watching the sun rise and set over the water; learn to prepare simple meals from fresh produce, seasonal fruits, and seafood. Food such as sandwiches, variety of salad dishes, and simple desserts can free you from the kitchen so you can hit the sand and the water.

Drawbacks. The Gulf Coast is vulnerable to tropical storms and hurricanes from June through November, and the State experience extreme heat in the summer. Lightning strikes are another beach hazard. Florida is the lightning capital of the country. The largest numbers of people killed are either standing under a tree, on the golf course, or exposed on the beach. While Mother Nature is uncontrollable, she can be monitored. Stay inform with the weather forecast during the hurricane season. According to Federal Emergency Management Agency, the best way to protect your home is to install professionally made storm shutters that are rated to withstand winds of 120 mile-per-hour or more. Have shutters made now for all windows, French doors, sliding glass doors, and sky lights. Mark and store them so they can be easily installed during a hurricane watch. For lightning strike prevention, head for indoor cover when thunderstorms approach.
